Dental Bridges

WHEN IS A DENTAL BRIDGE SUITABLE?

This type of prosthetic restoration solves both aesthetic and functional problems that usually occur after the extraction of teeth or loss of tooth for various reasons.

All that remains are gaps in the cavity. The longer missing teeth are not solved, the more the optimal environment for artificial replacements changes. Therefore, it is very important that the empty space after tooth loss is replaced as soon as possible. When designing a dental bridge, the following must be taken into consideration:

  • a reason (aesthetic, functional)
  • stability of the remaining teeth that will support the future structure after bridging
  • position, length and number of gaps in the jawbone

AESTHETICS VERSUS FUNCTIONALITY

Although the need for dental functionality is crucial for dental substitutes, it is important not to forget aesthetics. Therefore, it is important to consider the aesthetics of the smile as well as its functionality. For example, if the missing tooth in the front of the arch (which the client is not lacking when eating) causes shyness, self-confidence declination or communication isolation, the consequences for the mental side and personality are often for life.

A significant impact on the quality of life also occurs when the set of teeth loses its primary function - when eating food. If a patient is missing a few teeth in the chewing section and eating is a problem rather than an enjoyment, digestive problems are just around the corner. Other functional problems include impaired articulation and disorders in the temporomandibular joint. Therefore, there is no need to underestimate any of the reasons why a patient chooses a dental bridge - aesthetic or functional.

Typs of dental bridges

1. Fixed dental bridges

2. DENTAL BRIDGE ATTACHED TO DENTAL IMPLANTS

Such a dental bridge is considered to be the most appropriate solution because it does not damage your own teeth - the bridge is screwed onto the implants. If it is damaged, it can be removed, repaired in the lab and replaced in any time.

It is a bridge made of ceramic material that is fixed on two own healthy teeth - pillars. It is suitable as a replacement for front teeth, especially from aesthetic and hygienic point of view. The bridge acts very naturally and is unrecognizable to the naked eye from your own teeth.

It is a dental substitute with a metal core coated with ceramics. Such a dental bridge is suitable for posterior teeth. It is made from high quality ceramics and is used mainly in patients who do not have healthy teeth that are adjacent to the bridge or have already been repaired. It is also suitable in cases of extensive denture defects. Their disadvantage is that over time the metal structure can be visibly revealed.

3. TEMPORARY DENTAL BRIDGES

Temporary, i.e. provisional solutions are resin bonded bridges. In particular, they are used during wound healing, or when implants are used (during healing) so that the patient does not remain toothless.

5 STEPS TO DENTAL BRIDGES

It is not necessary to underestimate the preparation of the teeth for the deployment of the bridge. Before the act itself, it is necessary to undergo a clinical examination, but also to create a schedule of treatment and adjustment of teeth. If the pillar teeth (i.e. the teeth the bridge is attached to) are healthy, they will be painlessly reshaped as required using a dental drill. If their stability is insufficient, they can be replaced by an implant.

Last, the dentist makes imprints serving as a model of the oral cavity.

The bridge is made in a dental technical laboratory based on jaw imprints. Dental bridge materials are recommended by the dentist based on patient preferences (aesthetics, functionality), health status, and oral conditions. The bridge made must have a suitable form, shape, colour and function.

The finished dental bridge is anchored to its place in the oral cavity, corrections are made if necessary, so that the bridge does not bother, rub, etc.

After the replacement is fitted, long-term care follows. However, this is not just home care, which you should perform at least twice a day. Regular check-ups at the dentist and professional dental hygiene visits at least twice a year are also suitable. By taking a responsible approach, you can prolong the life of your dental prosthesis.

In communication, planning, as well as during treatment and if anything needs to be modified in our performance. Our 5-year warranty covers all operations and materials used. Therefore, it is important, and we perceive it as natural, if the patient contacts us immediately in case of any complications in order to find a suitable solution.

WHAT ARE YOUR MOST FREQUENT QUESTIONS?

In dental practice, patients often confuse the terms a bridge and replacement. The main difference between them is that the dental bridge cannot be removed. The dental prosthesis can be easily removed from the mouth.

After the teeth have been extracted and treated, gaps remain between the teeth. This causes the following:

  • Teeth in front of and behind the gap, after tooth removal tend to lean into the gaps
  • The opposite teeth tend to grow and stick out due to releasing the counterpressure when biting
  • Bone loss may occur in place of the gaps
  • All these changes can make subsequent prosthetic solutions difficult

The price depends on the type of the dental bridge used, the amount of material used, the time required and the work of dental specialists. Thus, for dental bridges, we can talk about price ranges. For example:

  • Common metal-ceramic bridge costs around from 10 000 CZK to € 50 000 CZK
  • Normal all-ceramic bridge costs from 22 500 CZK to 62 500 CZK
  • A full ceramic bridge with an implant attachment (implantation of dental implants included) may cost even more.
